Has your ranking been slipping the past few months? Traffic from the search engines, especially Google way down?  It is more important now than ever before to understand how to get your site ranked in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.  (Part of the huge upheaval in the last year in the SEO world, all of Yahoos searches are now powered by Bing). The big 3 search engines dictate if your online business is going to be a success or not. Getting traffic to a website is the only way to make sales and unless you are willing to pay for every visitor, you need to take control of your site and it’s listing with the search engines. The only problem is of course there are new rules coming out all the time.

The core fundamentals of organic search engine optimization are still as valid as they ever were. On page optimization is still very important and the amount and quality of inbound links you have coming to your website is still one of the strongest driving forces in creating a strong online presence.

Yet, the past year has seen over 500 changes to the Google ranking algorithm. Unless you study SEO on a virtual daily basis like my partner and I then you won’t know exactly what to do to be more successful on the search engines and boost your standings in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). If you are struggling to get noticed on the  search engines we have 3 quick fixes for your SEO Blues.

3 Quick SEO Fixes for Mayday and Caffeine

Google is the largest search engine and will drive more traffic to your web sites than all the others combined; most of my clients report at least 75-80% of their traffic comes from Google. Given this fact it’s only natural I should be focused on them.  Google’s changes to their search algorithm are effecting your search standings whether you know it or not. The Mayday and Caffeine updates made several specific and major changes. I have outlined three fixes below to help you get your sites back on track.

1. Google rewards websites that load faster. Matt Cutts announced this on his blog in April, it is a fact and don’t let anybody tell you different.  Google offers tools to help you cut down your web page’s load time on their site. Do whatever it takes to shave time off your page load times.

2. I’ve been singing this tune since 1998 and it is still valid. Fresh Content, is now more important than ever. With the Caffeine roll out completed you may have noticed that some pages on established web sites are getting crawled within seconds of being published.  For blog posts with timely information this is a huge boost. Also with Caffeine searchers have the choice to pick results ranging from the last 24 hours to always, but which content do you think people will choose first? The article from 2007 or the one published Sept 3?

3. Social Media sites are authority sites. This means Google now gives a higher value to links that come from social sites then it has in the past.  Facebook for example has a PR of 10; the more links you get from Facebook the better you will be. If you don’t have a social profile with a link in it and a way to keep it updated, you are losing traffic, big time. Set up a page on Facebook for your company, set up a LinkedIn company profile page and set up Twitter and YouTube accounts with a link to your site from your profiles.

There you have it, 3 Quick SEO Fixes for Mayday and Caffeine. Once you put these 3 fixes into play you will  see a change rather quickly. Don’t have time or the proper knowledge to put them into play?  We can help you, contact newmediaMike at dmTO Online Marketing.
